A young couple approached us, with the dream of living around a courtyard. And so we stacked all their spatial requirements along a strong central axis, with a courtyard that functions as the lungs of this indoor outdoor house. Almost every room on all levels overlooks what has been planned as a lush green pocket.

The clients' love for patterns in brickwork has long been cherished for its durability and timeless appeal. They wanted bricks to serve as a nod to architectural heritage, creating a sense of connection to the past. So when we combine them with intricate patterns, these walls become true works of art that tell stories of craftsmanship and creativity.

Discover Alai, near Chennai's shores, echoes the rhythm of the sea with its name in Tamil for "waves." It honors tradition and tranquility, mirroring a serene lifestyle. Remarkably, the client's daughter shares the same name, deepening familial ties. The design centers around a central courtyard, harmonizing indoor and outdoor spaces. Brickwork, cherished for its heritage, forms the soul of the home, meticulously crafted into intricate patterns.

This modern abode blends contemporary design with vernacular techniques, employing filler slabs and rammed earth walls for efficiency and authenticity. Each brick tells a story, bridging past and present, making Alai timeless.
